S1 E.16 Alexis Rosenbaum: Navigating Life, Business & Infertility in a World Built for Men

In this Episode

In this episode, we are excited to welcome Alexis Rosenbaum, founder of Rosebud CBD, infertility warrior, and all around badass.

Adriana and Alexis connected on Instagram 6 years ago. They served as support towards one another, as they both owned successful businesses in the jewelry industry. Alexis’ husband was pursuing a professional baseball career, and when that came to a close, they relocated to New Jersey.

As we know, Adriana is a born and bred Jersey Girl! When Alexis moved here, she and Adriana connected in real life for the first time. From then on, they have stayed in touch and have supported each other’s journeys.

But now, let’s get into the real talk: from the medical world to the temperatures we keep our workplaces at, the world we live in is built for men and accommodates men. That being said, a woman navigating her cycle is complicated. Whenever a woman experiences unusual symptoms, birth control is the default treatment. It is a quick fix, but it really only masks symptoms. Alexis notes that there is SO much that women can do to use their cycles to their own benefit. Her biggest advice is listening to your body – notice your symptoms, because they are telltale signs of where you are in your cycle.

Alexis and her husband, Danny, have been together since they were 18 years old. After 2 years of trying to conceive naturally, they found out that Danny was infertile. Typically, when it comes to infertility, the responsibility is always on the woman. With that, there are always extensive options for a woman to have a child, but when it comes to a male, everything is old wives’ tales and experimental.

Alexis and Danny decided to try IVF. Unfortunately, the round was not successful. Simultaneously, Alexis was developing her business, Rosebud CBD. Her blood, sweat, and tears went into the business, and it was not until 6 months after the round that she began comprehending her results. 1 in 7 couples experience infertility, yet it is still considered a taboo topic.

Alexis hesitated to share her journey on social media, but because many men and women who experience infertility feel flawed, it felt like a responsibility to her. It was therapeutic to be open with her audience. Although this experience was seemingly interminable, Alexis provides a refreshing perspective, noting that it taught her how to sit with grief and uncomfortable situations, especially as a business owner who follows a “want, work, get” mindset.

As a follower of Alexis, Adriana felt kinship to her from the beginning. Ironically, a similar circumstance became Adriana’s reality. Adriana and Alexis recall experiences in which they have been around their friends’ children, and the feelings of pity. Collectively, they both agree that they do not want to pity themselves, or have others pity them. Even with their struggles, being around other children and not being able to have their own at that time did not change what they love about the lifestyle.

Alexis goes into depth about her anxiety regimen. She aims to eat a wholesome diet, sleep 8 hours a day, move her body in ways that feel good, and limits herself to 1 cup of coffee per day. Yes, we know what you’re thinking. She is the “prime candidate” to easily conceive. This proves that no matter how healthy you are, you can still experience infertility.

From a business standpoint, Rosebud CBD is thriving during quarantine and has an incredible remote freelance team that has allowed Alexis to sit back. Danny and Alexis have taken time to explore and deepen their relationship. After all, a stronger relationship = stronger parents!

Everybody’s journey is different. From a young age, many girls are given baby dolls, and being a mother is considered the “right path”. For some, that is not the case, and we, as a society, need to come to terms with that.

We hope you enjoyed this episode, and we’ll catch you next week!
