S4 E.6 Mariah got robbed and other fun stories about our week
In this EpisodeAfter a crazy episode last week, we’re back for more! But first, before we get into everything, we have a bone to pick with the Glowphers… and that is… get over our feet being on the couch in our videos!!! Our shoes are clean – okay?! In fact, Mariah’s shoes are brand new, and were sent to her by the man she mentioned in the last episode. Because, ya know… he works at Nike. And yes, that was a flex.
Phew, now that that’s out of the way, let’s get into the episode. If you’re interested in what happened with the whole situation that we talked about last week, Adriana had a lovely experience with the VP of the company that was giving her problems. She was kind and receptive, and a solution was ultimately agreed upon. Thank goodness! And shoutout to the people who are understanding and kind in this world – we do it for you!
So hopefully, this episode will be a bit more chill this week… except for the fact that Mariah got robbed over the weekend. Oh yeah, and it happened at our store opening in Boston. AT our store! The audacity of some people! Side note, though, we met so many listeners in Boston and it was so sweet! We love meeting you all in person, and we can’t believe that so many of you listen to our silly little podcast.
Okay, back to the robbery. For events, LWP hires local professionals to do activations in the store. One of those activations this time around was a free ear piercing with the purchase of earrings in store. So, we hired a local woman who we thought was a professional… until she showed up. She was two and a half hours late, and from the get-go, she and her “assistant” were acting shady. They kept going in and out of the bathroom, weren’t really manning their station, and were giving attitude to some customers who were getting their ears pierced. Within an hour, she was asked to leave the store, and on her way out, she threw some of the hot chocolate we were providing to customers onto the exterior of our store! Lovely.
When she first left and Mariah went to go check her purse for something, she wasn’t concerned that her wallet wasn’t in there – she figured maybe she had left it in the hotel room. And keep in mind – Mariah rarely loses an item. So when it wasn’t anywhere to be found in the hotel, she started to get suspicious. And then the charges started rolling through. The scammer had gone to four different stores and made $1 purchases at each – and we’re assuming also taking cash out as well. Of course Mariah immediately canceled her cards, but the worst part was that her ID was in there! So now, Mariah had to navigate how to get home from Boston without an ID – yikes!
When we really think about it, the whole situation for the piercer is pretty sad. To be that desperate is concerning, and you know that Mariah prayed for her that night. She stole from the wrong people – literally from a company built on forming community and giving people opportunities. Anyways, Mariah did try to go out that same night, not even realizing that she would need an ID to get into the bars. That’s big dumb energy right there! No, we’re kidding, but it was pretty funny of her to think that she could get in.
And of course, the cherry on top of this story is that Mariah thought she was in the clear to get home, since she has the TSA PreCheck that does not require an ID. But, lo and behold, she was selected for a random ID check… of course. Luckily, everyone was incredibly kind to her, and she was able to fly home safe and sound, and without an ID.
In other news, we also talked about Ford’s sleeping journey without breastfeeding (going pretty well, but it’s still hard), advice on bringing your baby home for the first time (enjoy it, record everything, and pick songs that you can associate with that memory and play them), and making friends in your 20s (social media!).
Also when we met a bunch of you, you were asking when the live recording would be! We’re still figuring out details, but we really want to do it! We love this podcast, and it brings us so much happiness each week. This one was a doozy, but we hope you enjoyed listening, and we’ll catch you next time!
