S4 E.5 On the heels of a CRISIS!
In this EpisodeWelcome back, girlies – this week, we’re coming in HOT and on the heels of a (minor - but still SUPER annoying) crisis. While the alleged “crisis” itself isn’t so major, it just represents the way in which we have often been treated while trying to grow this company – with no respect! And of course, there have been great accomplishments, and amazing interactions with other brands, customers, buyers, etc., but somehow there always seems to be a wrench thrown in, and someone deciding that we’re not worth being treated like human beings. So in this episode, we’re venting, because sometimes even the “glowers” themselves need others to help them glow through shit.
Let’s just dive right in, shall we? It all started when an influencer outreach company emailed the LWP Partnerships email, asking for Adriana with an opportunity to work with a big brand. Mariah saw the email come through and forwarded it to Adriana – because it said, “This message is for Adriana.” (!) It seemed like a great opportunity for Adriana’s personal brand, and she was really excited about it. After agreeing to the partnership, Adriana signed a contract, but missed the fine print – that this content was to be posted on the Little Words Project official Instagram account…
So while yes, she did miss the fine print, all other signs of the contract pointed to this content being posted on Adriana’s personal handles, and not Little Words Project’s. It seemed like the influencer outreach team tried to force an LWP partnership without actually going through the proper steps! The problem arises in the way that this influencer company decided to treat Adriana. After a couple days of trying to come to a solution with the woman she was working with at the company, Adriana was passed along to a supervisor. To put this nicely, she was not a friendly person. The second that Adriana began to push back and explain her side of the story, the woman started bulldozing – talking over her, never letting Adriana get a word in, and blaming the whole situation on Adriana. The woman even went so far as to say that they (the company) didn’t want to have to go back to their client and tell them they hired someone (Adriana) who couldn’t read. UM?! Excuse us?!?!
In short, this woman was very unkind, and it made Adriana feel like she has often felt in her career, and in her life in general – belittled, disrespected, and just not treated right. No solution was agreed upon from this conversation (obviously), and we don’t know what the outcome will be! And just to be clear, this is not a matter of the brand which Adriana was contracted to represent – in fact, it’s a brand that she loves, and they’ve done nothing wrong in this debacle. It all goes back to why Little Words Project was even started in the first place – wanting to create something that would make the world a little bit kinder. It sounds like the lady on the other end of the phone needs a certain bracelet to wear as a reminder. Any guesses? (Psst – it’s Be F*cking Nice).
The reason that this is all so frustrating is because we always try our best to lead with authenticity, genuineness, and of course, kindness, and to be treated in this way just makes us wonder what’s even worth it anymore! It’s difficult to want to continue to do anything when this is the way that people still speak to one another, but the reason that we keep going is for all of the girls we meet at store openings, our customers, and all of the people who truly do lead with kindness. You make it all worth it.
And listen, we’re not trying to be negative Nancies – we just needed to vent. On a brighter (and almost completely opposite) note… we’re in TARGET! Yes, Little Words Project is now available to shop in the literal coolest store of all time, and we couldn’t be more excited for all that is to come in our partnership with them! In other news, Bill and Adriana are weaning Ford off of breastfeeding, and it’s been another trial… to say the least. Adriana has had to sleep in a separate room so Ford won’t wake up looking for the boob, and hearing him cry at night is definitely not easy. Bill has been a champ through it all though, and stays up with Ford to calm him down enough to go back to sleep. We’re praying that Ford gets used to his new normal quickly!
And what would an episode be without a dating update from Mariah? Well, sadly the update this week is that she did, in fact, get ghosted twice. BUT she met someone on Hinge who she’s really excited about! So at least there’s some positive in all of this.
