S4 E.12 Real life superpowers, lessons learned, and the titles of our memoirs
In this Episode
Welcome back, girlies! It’s been approximately 12 minutes since we recorded our Miami episode, but we’re back for more! We have to fit as much in as recording as we can before Ford wakes up and starts screaming for Mommy!
Unfortunately, since we recorded another episode right before this, we have literally no updates, but that’s okay! For this episode, we decided to continue with more questions from Danielle Robay’s 52 Cards for Deeper Conversation game.
We talked about our real-life superpowers. For Adriana, it’s not being able to see obstacles. She has never been afraid of a challenge, and knows that she can overcome anything. If it hadn’t been for this literal superpower, we wouldn’t have Little Words Project as we know it today! For Mariah, her superpower is being able to chameleon in any space. She has become an expert at not changing who she is, but still adjusting to the room, and bringing up Little Words Project naturally while she’s at it!
When reflecting on what the titles of their memoirs would be, the answers came up pretty quickly – for Mariah, it would be titled “What I Want, I Will Have,” and for Adriana, it would be titled “Be Fucking Nice.” Stay tuned to see if they actually write these – it might be more of a reality than you think! Aside from the fact that both of their parents also want them to write memoirs for them… so that might take up some of their time, too.
For Mariah, a lesson that’s taken her the longest to learn is to not date athletes. She’s going to have to learn it pretty quickly now, since Adriana is no longer helping her in the dating department once she turns 30… which is in a couple of months. For Adriana, she’s still learning everything, and she’ll be learning forever. Some things that have stuck out to her, however, are practicing principles of stoicism, and understanding and accepting that what happens was always going to happen. It’s a helpful coping mechanism when coming out of difficult situations.
When talking about their earliest memories of what success looked like, both girls talked about their parents. For Mariah, she remembers seeing her parents being incredibly successful at the company that they both worked for, and staying in hotel rooms while they went on important speaking engagements for that company. Fortunately for Mariah, part of their corporate success also coincided with success in the household, and keeping that household stable with 5 kids, until they eventually separated. It gave her hope to know that there can be great success in both the career and the household, and that stable households do exist.
For Adriana, her earliest memory of what success looked like was recognizing where her mom came from, and how she started with essentially nothing and made so much for herself. She left Mexico at 18, and was the only one of her siblings to do so. Now, she helps her family back in Mexico out wherever she can. Adriana’s mom is the reason that she believes in turning her pain into passion, and where the phrase “Querer es poder” comes from. Adriana’s mom plays such a huge role in why Adriana is the way she is.
We also talked about the person who has left the strongest impact on their lives. For both of them, the answer was Paula Abdul. She is such an icon, and the fact that she told Adriana and Mariah that at all times, she wears a stack of 30 bracelets and gives them to people who need them is just mind blowing. The fact that LWP has had such a profound impact on someone like Paula Abdul (the OG Nice Girl!!) means so much to both Adriana and Mariah, and just goes to show that the product really does make an impression on people, and really means something to them.
One of the deeper questions led to a really inspiring conversation – the question asked “what do you know for sure?” and for both girls, the answer was their paths. For Adriana, she truly believes that everything that has happened to her has happened for a reason, and that everything has put her exactly where she is supposed to be. From being bullied, to going to TCNJ, meeting Bill, starting Little Words Project, meeting Mariah, going through IVF, and everything in between, the dots were always meant to connect for her. The same sentiment rang true for Mariah, and we talked about one of Adriana’s favorite poems, After a While by Veronica A. Shoffstall.
Believe it or not, this was just a smattering of questions that we answered on this episode! We also talked about sacrifices we’ve had to make, what we’re still trying to improve, how we would describe ourselves to a stranger, historical events we wish we were at, the last time we felt rejected, and so much more. This was a great episode full of some great conversations, so don’t miss it! We’ll catch you next time!
